Computing - Pictograms

Image
In Computing, Year 2 have been learning how to make tally charts and turn these into pictograms using software on the computers. Today, they completed a ‘mini-beast’ hunt around the classroom and used this data to make a pictogram to print.

Computing - Pictograms

Image
In computing today, we were exploring how to make a pictogram on the laptops. We logged into our own accounts and used Google Classroom to access the website where we could make our pictograms. We then explored the software to see how it all works before making a pictogram of our own.

Computing L5 - Using Beebot Mats

Image
Today, we used the beebot mats that we drew last week to predict code for, and program, the beebots. We had to think about our start and end points and predict the algorithm that the robot would need to follow to complete the journey. We have got really good at predicting and are starting to see how algorithms are created.

Computing - L2 Programming Beebots

Image
In Computing today, we were exploring how instructions (algorithms) can be given to Beebots to make them operate. We learned that the order that we give instructions is important and that this will make a difference to where the robot ends its journey.

Computing - L1 Programming our Friends

Image
Today in computing we talked about how instructions given in order can be called algorithms.  We then created some algorithms for our friends to follow. Finally we used a Beebot app on the iPad ( https://beebot.terrapinlogo.com/  ) to see how instructions can be given to robots too.

Computing - IT in School

Image
In Computing today, we have been thinking about how IT is used in school. We know that IT is something that is a computer, or something that works with a computer, so we considered all of the examples of this we might see in school.  We then used the laptops to login and access a Google Slides page, where we were able to drag and resize images into different categories to demonstrate our understanding and develop our skills.

Computing - Music on a Laptop

Image
Today was very exciting in Year 2 computing as we got to use the laptops for making music! We learned how to login to our own accounts and access Google Classroom in order to open and save our musical creations in Chrome Music Lab. We talked about notes and how these can be represented, and then had a go at creating our own musical scores! We finished by saving our work to access again next week. Wow Year 2!

Computing - Rhythm in Chrome Music Lab

Image
In computing today, Year 2 have been learning about pulse and rhythm. They then applied this understanding using Chrome Music Lab’s rhythm function to design their own rhythms and beats. The children loved exploring the different features and instruments and created some fantastic beats.  If you’d like to access this website at home, the address is  https://musiclab.chromeexperiments.com/
