Geography

 In geography today we explored digital maps and satellite maps using the IPADs. We learnt about the capital city of Jamaica, Kingston, and then explored the human features of Kingston using google maps. We discovered that Kingston has a lot of the same features as Cowes, such as shops, schools and roads but also has some different ones such as hospitals, prisons and an airport. We thought about how Kingston is the same as Cowes and how it is different.

 Year 2 enjoyed a wonderful trip to Osborne house as part of our history work all about Queen Victoria and also to link with our DT topic of bathing machines. We enjoyed a walk around the house looking at the Christmas decorations as well as learning lots about Queen Victoria. We also learnt all about her children in a special workshop about them. Finally we ventured down to the beach to look at Queen Victoria’s bathing machine in order to inspire us in creating our own bathing machines.

 In English this week we have been writing our versions of the story The Lion and the Mouse. Everyone wrote some amazing stories and then we decided to publish them by writing our stories up into books and illustrating them as well. We are going to share our books with reception children at the end of the week.
