RE Festival Workshop- Sukkot
Today Year 2 had their first RE festival workshop. We looked at the Jewish festival of Sukkot, a celebration that is similar to the Christian Harvest Festival.
First of all we looked at what it was like to be thankful and how we show thanks for the things we have. We then explored the festival of Sukkot and learnt during the week of Sukkot, some people build sukkah's (outside huts) in their gardens where they spend time with friends and family, eating, praying, playing games and generally being thankful all they have. We also learnt about some of the symbolism of different acts Jewish people perform during this special time, including waving 'The Four Kinds'.
We then had a go at creating a model sukkah with our friends out of food stuff. We tried to replicate the walls of a sukkah with bread and breadsticks and the roof with different salad leaves. The material of a sukkah is normally made with leaves and twigs as some Jewish people think it is important to be able to view the stars through the gaps in the roof.
Here are some of our attempts, I'm sure you'll agree that our temporary huts/sukkahs look amazing.
