History

Image
In history this week we started to think about how we know what happened in the Great Fire of London. We realised that because it was so long ago there are no photos or videos so we thought about what sources of evidence we do have. We learnt that Samuel Pepys who was in the Great fire of London kept a diary and this is a good source of evidence, along with newspapers. We then had a list of statements and we had to find the piece of evidence which told us this statement.

RE Festival Workshop- World Humanism Day

Image
In our RE workshop today we learnt about the worldview of Humanism and its annual festival of World Humanism Day. Humanists are people that believe they do not need religion to help them live good and happy lives and turn to science for answers. They don't believe in any God, have a religious book or sacred place, consequently there are no set ways in which to mark special occasions or even World Humanist Day itself. There may be events like picnics, conferences, parties or even protests to mark the day but it would depend on each cultures preference.  To mark this day and as a reflection of all the festivals we have already learnt about this year, we worked in teams to design our own perfect celebration, thinking about the food, venue, activities, decorations and clothes we would want.

DT puppets

In DT today we had a go at making finger puppets. We drew round a template and cut out the material before attaching other pieces to the fabric to make our designs. Today we used glue to put our designs together but our next step will be to use our sewing skills to make hand puppets!
