Art

In art this half term we are learning all about architecture! We started by learning today about what architecture is and discussing famous buildings that we know and also buildings that we know about in the local area. We then looked more closely at a building in India, the Taj Mahal and had a go at sketching it  first in 2 minutes, then in 5 minutes and finally in 10 minutes.

Dictation

In order to practice our handwriting and spelling every week we complete dictation, memorising a sentence and practice it every day before writing it from memory on a Friday. This is really helping us to improve our spelling and handwriting.

Music

In music we started learning about a piece of music called Finlandia by a composer called Sibelius. We listened to the music and talked about what we liked and didn’t like about it and what we thought it might be about. We then listened again to the music and this time drew a picture while we listened showing  what we thought the music might be about.

English

In English today we were learning about a type of description called similes. A simile is when we describe something by comparing it to something else. For example, feet as cold as ice. We had a go in groups at writing some similes about monsters before trying to use similes to describe our own monsters.

History

In today’s lesson we looked at a variety of different statements and we had to decide which picture matched the statement about Mary Anning best. We also wrote a letter giving reasons as to why Mary Anning should be remembered and why she was important.
